Any time I go on a road trip, I keep my eye out for fun, fascinating and even weird roadside attractions.  Driving through Kentucky yesterday the Husband and I noticed that we would be passing the Original Kentucky Fried Chicken.  While KFC is not my favorite in the friend chicken department, eating at the original was too good to pass up!  So off we exited interstate in Corbin, KY, took a turn or two and arrived at the original Sanders Cafe.

Although Sanders Cafe is not completely original, it has been restored and a modern KFC can be found inside, along with the “original” side and memorabilia.  Sanders Cafe is a National Historic Landmark and has a sign out front to familiarize guests with the history of this place.

Of course I had to have some Original Recipe Fried Chicken to make this visit official.  It was actually greasier than I remember it being.

And no visit would be complete without a picture with the Colonel himself.

Well I have been driving all day and have made it into Albuquerque, NM.  The drive so far has been safe and sound.  I did have a fall in the shower this morning, resulting in a 4 in. by 2 in. bruise below my left knee (not the best for driving a stick shift).  I also was attacked by a tumbleweed shortly after crossing the New Mexico state line.  It was big and scary and coming at me from the left.

Sadly, I did not have a decent internet connection last night, so I was not able to pull up my list of roadside attractions I wanted to visit. *sigh*  I was able to see the “2nd Largest Cross in the Western Hemisphere” from my car (it stands about 190 feet tall).  I am not much for grandiose religious symbols, so I did not get off the interstate. Tomorrow I will hit the Petrified Forest in Arizona.  And maybe some fake dinosaurs.  It is a shorter driving day tomorrow, so I can take the 1+ hour detour to see some dead trees.  Yippee! Until then, enjoy the “2nd Largest Cross in the Western Hemisphere”.
