When Injury Gets in the Way

There are very few things in this world that I can honestly say that I hate.  Hate is such a strong, powerful word.  I try never to use it lightly, though I am sure I fail in my daily discussions on random topics (such as East Tennessee drivers – your turn signals and turning lanes are there for a reason).  But one thing I do hate is being down and out for the count.  And right now I am down and out.  Saturday I was moving things into my brand new law office (yeah for being solo!) and that is when it happened.  My back decided it was not going to support my body any more.  It hurt to sit, it hurt to stand, it hurt to just exist.  I have never experienced such pain before. Not when I had surgery, not when I had my wisdom teeth removed, never.

The pain lasted through the weekend so I headed to the doctor on Monday.  He sent me to the hospital for X-rays and gave me multiple prescriptions to ease the pain and potential fix the problem (if the problem doesn’t require surgery).  Good news is that when I take the prescriptions I do not feel the pain.  Of course, that is because they knock me out for a solid six hours.  But once I awaken and attempt to move again, the pain comes rushing back.

Now I have cancelled all of my appointments for this week.  I cannot stand up straight without the medication and I cannot stay awake with it.  And I am back to the doctor’s office on Monday, though I am suppose to call him tomorrow if I do not feel a significant improvement.  Wish me luck! I’m off to take my last dose of the day and crawl – literally – into bed.

    I’m so sorry that you got hurt :( Ouch!
    BUT – new office space is exciting ;)
    Just curious, is the solo gig new? Or were you solo before? {I should probably know that, given how long we’ve been blog friends!}

    Thanks Amanda. I really want this to heal quickly! I feel like I am not accomplishing anything stuck on the couch or bed all day long!

    I started my solo career the last weekend of June. So it hasn’t been going on for long and I haven’t really promoted much on this blog. Probably should, though…

    Oh yuck. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

    And congrats on the solo thing!
