I hate it when people lie. I get that from my Dad. Dad doesn’t hate a lot of things, but lying is definitely one of them. I have inherited this distaste of lying.
Sadly, in my job I run into more liars than I normally deal with on a day to day basis. So let me explain something to you, as a potential client. Don’t lie to me. If I ask you whether or not you have any priors, I mean any priors. Whether they are property crimes, violent crimes, or a DUI, just let me know they exist. I cannot properly advise you as your attorney if I don’t know the truth about your history. Your history can affect the deal I can get you or the range of sentences that you might be looking at. And guess what? We are going to pull your record anyway, I just like to be prepared.
Why do people lie? I can understand lies that protect people. But when the truth will actually help you out a more than a lie, why lie?

How true! In his book, The Last Lecture, the author spoke of the real need for honesty and its powerful influence on those who abide by it. Truth makes us free. It is the crown of a good person.
